Events

Ospreys in Fort William with Ben Nevis in the background by Vince DeanThe Class Committee arrange venues  and co-ordinate dates, to minimise clashes,  for the 5 class Championships and other open meetings for Osprey Class members in the UK. The Committee also occasionally organise training days with well known and respected coaches.

The 5 class championships are:

  • UK National Championship held at a coastal venue
  • UK Inland Championship hosted at an inland venue (lake or reservoir)
  • Scottish & Northern Championship
  • Southern Area Championship
  • Welsh & Midlands Championship

Ospreys compete in other events such as:

  • Selden SailJuice Winter Series
  • South West Sailing Winter Series

The National Championship was first held in 1958 hosted by Saundersfoot Sailing Club and has been held every year except one, 2020 due to global Covid pandemic.

The first Inland Championship was held in 1989 hosted by Blithfield Sailing Club and has been held every year since, except in 1990 and 2020.

The Scottish & Northern Championship is hosted by venues, typically, North of a line from Liverpool on the West coast to Hull on the East coast. The first Championship was held in 1966 hosted by Royal Northumberland Yacht Club.

The Southern Area Championship is hosted by venues, typically, South of a line from Gloucester on the Severn estuary to Ipswich on the East coast. The first Championship was held in 1983 hosted by Lymington Town Sailing Club.

The Welsh & Midlands Championship is hosted by venues anywhere in Wales and, typically, South of a line from Liverpool to Hull and North of a line between Gloucester and Ipswich. The Championship was first held in 1981 hosted by Mumbles Yacht Club.
