2023 Nationals - View from 'More Panic'

Dear Osprey Community,

We want to express our heartfelt thanks for the wonderful experience we had as the crew of ‘More Panic’ sailing in the Osprey Nationals at Hayling Island Sailing Club. It was an adventure we will remember, and it wouldn't have been possible without the warmth and camaraderie of our fellow sailors.

From the moment we arrived, we were given a warm welcome. One act of kindness stood out when we lost a sail batten before the event, and a fellow sailor generously provided us with a spare. It was a true testament to the supportive community.

The venue was fantastic. We enjoyed thrilling races, exhilarating sailing, and abundant sunshine throughout the event. Even when the wind deserted us on Sunday, leaving us becalmed resulting in the day's racing being cancelled, we enjoyed simply being out on the water among the Ospreys. Our improvisation using the spinnaker pole as a paddle added a touch of humour to the day. And there was plenty of time for the crew to enjoy sunbathing on the foredeck and balancing in front of the forestay.

We also had our share of amusing moments as we navigated the challenges of sailing three up in a confined space. Knitting became a surprising pastime until we finally established a system that worked for us!

Thank you to everyone who made the event so memorable. Your kindness and shared passion for sailing made this experience truly special. We look forward to more adventures on the water!

Wishing you good winds and happy sailing,
The Crew of ‘More Panic’ (Three Men in a Boat) Osprey 757
