Saundersfoot sailing club hosted the 49th Coppet week from 29th May to 4th June.
This years event was down on numbers pre pandemic times where entries were at the max entry limit of 75 boats.
Entry was 38 boats made up every thing from topper/ mirror (led by senior member of the Edwards family 'D.J') to Ospreys and IC at the faster end.
This year the osprey fleet was represented by Dan &Matt/Chris in 1276, Gareth & Jon in 1331, Dave & Maurice in 1365.
Winds were generally light ranging from day 1 with a light and shifty breeze with lots of holes to Tuesdays race which was sailed in a fully powered breeze.
All Ospreys took the honour of being first Osprey in one race. In Race three start Dan and Gareth engaged in some pre start combat ( Dan must have wached top gun !) resulting in Gareth being over the line. But not finding out until close to the windward mark. After going back and restarting he got back to 15th on handicap which was a fantastic effort.
Race 5 was a strange one as 1365 qnd 1331 were ahead of a gaggle of slow h/c boats which were finished. 1276 was then finished and on h/c ahead of Gareth and equal 5th with 1365.The Mirror of D.J taking the spoils.

Next year is the 50th Coppet week and it would be great to get a fleet of 10+ ospreys. We currently have 14 active Ospreys between Tarta and Tenby so a good base to work on.
If any of you are looking for a weeks holiday next May and fancy a change from current national formats of 10 races over 4 days with 1 race a day over 6 days then this is for you.
Saundersfoot was the venue for 1st Osprey nationals and offers great accommodation from camping, rentals to a luxury spa hotel. There are lots of pubs and restaurants along with the sailing club making it easy to wind away relaxing hours.
The next Osprey event in Wales is Tenby Osprey open being sailed as part of Tenby regatta on Saturday 25th June and Round Caldy race on Sunday 26th June .
